Shyann and the Rise of the Drones
Aug 20, 2025
07:42 a.m.
Woke up to a weird buzzing noise outside. Thought it was just a bee. It wasn’t.
08:00 a.m.
On the way to school, me and my sidekick, Talon (he’s a giant robotic owl I built in my garage—don’t ask), spotted something strange: black drones flying in formation over the town square. Weird thing was, no one else saw them. It’s like they were invisible to everyone except me.
08:52 a.m.
Got into class. Mr Jones was talking about fractions but my head was buzzing like those drones. I drew one in my maths book. Triangle body, red light eye, spinning blades. I showed Talon later. He nodded. He’s not much of a talker but he’s smart.
10:15 a.m.
Break time. Talon and I flew up to the roof of the school. Drones were swarming near the tower block. I spotted one dropping a small silver cube on the roof of the library. I scanned it with my owl-glasses (patent pending). It said:
"TARGET ACQUIRED: PHASE ONE INITIATED"
Phase one of what?
12:00 p.m.
During lunch, the power cut out. All the lights went out. The teacher's smartboard glitched and flashed symbols that looked a LOT like the ones on the drone cube. I saw three more cubes hidden around school: one in the bin shed, one under the stage, one in the girls' toilets (I didn’t go in, I swear—Talon flew in and took a picture).
Each one had a number: Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3.
1:15 p.m.
Told Mr Jones. He said I’d been reading too many comic books. (Rude.)
2:40 p.m.
Me and Talon sneaked out of school early. Flew to the top of the water tower to scan the whole city. I pieced together a clue: each drone was dropping cubes near tech hubs—libraries, phone masts, even the local arcade.
They weren’t attacking people.
They were taking control of technology.
3:30 p.m.
I hacked into one of the cubes (Talon zapped it open with a mini lightning bolt). Inside was a tiny alien chip. It pulsed green and gave off a message:
"ALL DATA WILL BE MINE."
I looked at Talon. “They’re not here for war,” I said. “They’re here for knowledge.”
5:00 p.m.
We followed the drones back to the centre of town, where they formed a giant cloud over the clock tower. That’s when I saw it. A giant triangular ship, invisible to most people, except it shimmered in the sky when the sun hit it just right.
They were building a sky-base.
5:59 p.m.
I had a choice: try to stop them now or wait and figure out what Phase 4 is. Talon hooted and tapped his claw on my shoulder.
I decided to wait. But I marked every drone's location on my map. I’ll strike tomorrow.
If anyone reads this and finds this diary—
Look to the skies.
They’re watching
